The Institute’s Activities

The Turkey Institute strives to contribute to a better understanding of Turkey through the dissemination of information about Turkey among a broad Dutch audience. It aims to provide a forum for anyone interested in Turkey, relying on an extensive network of experts from academia, civil society, government, business and the media.

The Turkey Institute organizes a program of conferences and lectures on topics such as Turkish foreign policy, Turkey-EU relations, the Turkish economy and Turkish politics. The schedule of events is designed in close cooperation with third parties (the business sector, civil society organizations, debate centres, educational establishments, the media, and others). We also maintain an extensive Dutch website with background information and current affairs. Next to this, the Turkey Institute (co-) develops seminars and long-term projects in the fields of education and economics. Some recent examples include:

Economics: Trade Mission on Sustainable Energy to Southeastern Turkey, October 2011
(commissioned by NL Agency)
Education: Netherlands-Turkey Business Challenge 2011, with Dutch and Turkish universities, November 2011
(commissioned by the Netherlands Ministry of Education, Culture and Science)
Seminars: Workshop on ‘Business in Turkey’, master-class on ‘Modern Turkey’
Bilateral Relations, NLTR 400:  Coordination of civil society initiatives for the celebration of the 4th centennial of Dutch-Turkish diplomatic relations in 2012
(commissioned by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
